Ibex Guidelines during Covid restrictions. June 2020

To encourage healthy exercise and getting around safely the Ibex would like to make equipment and limited facilities available to members who signed up and paid for this year*. It is on the assumption that members will act responsibly and considerately within the current safety guidelines.

*If you want to paddle this year then we are offering reduced membership through webcollect. IBEX Subscriptions

We will be following additional club guidelines:

Paddle trips may be informally organised between members and are therefore ‘peer’ paddles and not covered by the clubs British Canoeing insurance and are the responsibility of those taking part.. (Members who are British Canoe individual members are covered). This is for own equipment or allocated Kayaks.

The trips are planned well within the safety and ability of the members with caution a priority to avoid compromising rescue and other water users. All members on the water agree to perform rescues if required (where social distancing will not be possible).

We have a maximum of Six people going out and coming in at any one time and if there are more members involved stagger the times of going out and coming back .

The ibex forecourt is a pinch point for social distancing.

Come ready changed as no access to the club will be possible with exception of the key holder who may enter to collect and extra kit required..

To avoid going in the hut members may be allocated buoyancy aids and Decks, sign for them and take them home looking after them until we recall them.

Use of the Wild Thing kayaks is encouraged and users of them can also sign out a deck and put a label on the Wild Thing of choice thereby having exclusive use of it to be stored at the hut (numbers permitting).

Sea Kayaks are more complicated because of limited number of kayaks and suitable decks.

The suggestion for these is that we hang the decks with the appropriate kayaks and as people use them they put them back cleaned with a note of when they were used. That way the next member can choose the best ‘quarantined’ one.

In line with the current guidance all equipment will be cleaned and left 72hrs before next use and as such Club paddles will be Wednesday and Sunday.

Kayaks may be reserved in advance of club paddles. Members turning up Adhoc without equipment may not be able to paddle.

On arrival at the club no more than 4 people on the forecourt at any time and no parking at the Hut.

Groups of 4-6 may launch and paddle out together. All equipment must be washed down with soap and water on return and marked with date of use.

Unfortunately under the current guidance there will be no courses or trips this year and new members must be experienced paddlers, also we are unable to run a youth group at present.
